Salisbury(and the South Coast) - part 2

So I guess you're wanting to see what I bought on my trip to Salisbury? Sorry not to have shown you yesterday. I now feel like it's going to be a bit of a let down to those of you who have expressed feelings of excitement at seeing the Salisbury shops and what I bought! Unfortunately, beautiful City though it is, it doesn't really live up to expections with regards to shopping. But talking of shops, I must first say a big big thank you to Emma and Kelly who both took the time to email me with suggestions of places to visit. I think I went to most of the places they suggested.

So where was I? Ah yes, shopping. I was really hoping for some good vintage shops to explore but unless I missed something, I came across just one Antique shop(well more of a centre really) and a few charity(thrift) shops. The Antique Centre was very nice and lovely for a wander round, but it didn't throw up anything exciting for me unfortunately.

But I'm pleased to say that I did find some fabric and buttons all of which were at bargain prices. In particular I found a couple of lovely Cath Kidston napkins in a beautiful soft green which are going to be turned into cushion fronts. They were supposed to be £2 each which I think was already more than half price, but when I got to the till, I was charged only £2 altogether! I like bargains like that.

I also found some cute little buttons in my favourite colours. Not vintage unfortunately, just from a great fabric shop, but useful none the less. I already have plans for them.

And some lovely large scale red gingham. I can't resist gingham and am now wishing I bought more as it was a lot more reasonably priced than I've ever seen it here in London.

Finally, I found lovely felt in moss green, fusia pink and soft baby blue. The picture above really doesn't do justice to the colours I'm afraid. Actually, none of the pictures are great because I had to take them at about 9 o'clock last night. It was either that or wait for daylight next weekend to take them and that's just silly. (Can't wait for light evenings again!) I've got a few potential ideas for the felt. Just need time to sit down and try them out.

After we finished in Salisbury, we drove down to the coast to stay with George's Brother and his girlfriend again as we were doing boat work with them again on Sunday. Sam is as enthusiastic about the boat as George is. I just hope that Becky is not getting fed up of us or spending her Sundays hanging around our little boat? Hopefully not! We really had a fun time with them going to their local pub on Saturday night where there's always live music on. We did a lot of dancing which I love. Don't get to do it so often these days. I even managed to drag Geoge on to the dance floor for a slow dance! Poor thing! I think he secretly enjoyed it.

We got the mast up on the boat on Sunday so George was pleased. It's now looking like a proper boat. An apology to those of you not at all interested in boats, but here's a little pic. I thought it was about time I showed you where I go to most weekends lately! She is rather cute don't you think. She's going in the water this week so then the fun can really start, although I won't be sailing until I know George is totally confident with everything.(and the weather warms up a bit!)

So that was my weekend. Yet another busy one. This week I really do need to set time aside for creating as very little was done at the weekend other than buying materials. I'll post pictures as soon as I have some things done.

Hi! I'm sorry Salisbury didnt give you what you were hoping for :(. I live in Winchester which has some lovely shops including The Hambledon, for lovely 'stuff' not great for thrift tho....My favourite place for shopping is either Bath or Brighton...I guess you might have tried them already though!

Nice to meet a UK Blogger :)

Caroline.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the felt, the colours are lovely.

I've just become addicted to buttons, never saw the attraction before, but now I can't have enough of them!

Hi Nonnie - I'm glad you enjoyed Salisbury, even if you didn't spend a fortune! I've left another message on my blog for you. Sue

love these starry buttons on the gingham...great finds!

I lost my comment!!! aaaaagh! I wrote a lot and I lost it!
Ok, again..
Nice place to visit. England is a very nice country. Those old buildings with so much of history to tell are very attractive. I wish I could go back and visit other cities. I've been to London once. I can imagine the day I put my feet in Europe again! My kids must grow a little bit more for that. I wanna dig in these stores too.
Boats are cool, but to be honest I am a bit afraid of them. We have a small one, that we used to launch at Colorado River. The summers were nice there, but only to go boating, because the heat is terrible in the desert. Now I think we will have to sell it, because there is no more rivers around.
Yesterday I discovered an online fabric shop...but in USA. So cool. You might like it, so here is the address: http://www.shabbyfabrics.com/index.htm

Thanks a lot for you last comments, very meaningful and kind. XOXO.

Sounds like a great weekend with some great finds. I always love finding deals on fabrics and buttons.
Debbie

I love Salisbury. I've been up there to visit Kelly a few times so really enjoyed reading about your trip.
Thank you for leaving those lovely comments on my blog. I always appreciate every single one.

What a fun weekend you had. Shoping, dancing and a boat...what more can you ask for. I use to sail on a 35 ft. sail boat and it was such fun. When there is light air you feel such a part of nature. I am sure you will enjoy. Come visit September Moen when you have time

I love hearing about the boat, I think it would be lovely to sail down an English river, with a thermos of tea at sunset. I got to go on a fishing boat in the ocean this past fall, and it was so much fun, cruising up the coast, and seeing San Diego from a completely different angle.

I'm crazy for buttons too, it looks like you found some good ones! And the felt looks delicious, I just love felt :o).

Lovely things Fiona. I love gingham too. Can't wait to see what you create.
Glad you had a fun weekend.

Well you certainly had a full and fun weekend! I love those pretty buttons and the felt colours look great! Mike's always wanted a boat but we're not near the coast, plus I doubt we'd have the time for it at the mo! One day, when we have that cottage by the sea...!

Lovely boat, buttons and felt! (I wish I could fine some nice felt) Sounds like you had a lovely weekend.

I can remember the shops were a little lack lustre but as I visited so long ago I thought things would have improved....
It's great you still found some goodies. I love bringing little bits of haberdashery back from days out.
The light is bad at the moment, but at least we don't live in Iceland where it's dark all the time in winter.

I always like the buying of the materials far more than the actual making!

Felt!! In quantities! In bright colours! I am desperate to find some like that.

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend. I'm am totally with you on the dark evenings too. It seems I never see my house in daylight apart from at weekends anymore. Boo Hoo!

Ooh love your fabrics and buttons Fiona, the felt looks fabby. What a cute little boat, I bet you can't wait for the warm balmy evenings of the summer, sitting on your little boat drinking cocktails!

Those buttons look lovely. If you want more of the gingham fabric just let me know where you got it and I can pick some up for you! All the colours look lovely on this dark and dismal day! Happy crafting.

The gingham looks lovely! What have you got in mind for them?
